Be Your Own Olympian

Goodness, Summer is here and that means the 2021 Summer Olympics are here too. I don’t know about the rest of you, but we take the Olympics seriously. Maybe it’s a sense of tribal or team pride, or a sense of unity we feel when cheering on our USA team.

All of the athletes have devoted their lives to focus their energy, strength, and abilities to have what it takes to compete in the Olympics. That is no small task. They pretty much give up their childhoods to put their time in training with early morning workouts, late training after school, or working out to keep their body at peak performances levels.

Their families go through a lot too. Not only financially, but time away from the family unit is hard on everyone. Time is always precious and in short supply.

There are so many things that we can learn from these gifted athletes. I want to share a few points that we could utilize to make our own lives a little more victorious.

1) Eat to win. You've heard it before, but if you really want to have more energy you need to eat less carbs and eat more greens, fruits, and vegetables. When we're stressed we eat for the wrong reasons, so watch that stress. There are so many options...Keto, Paleo, and many others Do your research and find out what's right for you. If we eat to win, we will have more energy to accomplish more goals.

2) Drink your water. Especially if you work out in summer heat you’ll want to make sure you stay hydrated. As an added bonus the extra fluid helps flush out your body and helps you stay leaner.

3) Move your body. Walk, run, dance, and stretch. Keep your body moving to keep your energy moving to keep your body moving. Start out small and set realistic goals . Ask someone to be a power buddy or put some moving music on your ipod and move, move, move.

4) Focus on the outcome. If we act as if we can achieve what we want then we change the energy around us. Act and feel like a winner and you will change your environment and everything around you!

Don’t forget to cheer for the USA at this world event. At times we find ourselves cheering for the underdog athletes of other countries because they have so much heart and never give up. Very, very American.

So enjoy your Summer, wear your sunblock and move well,

Tana
