A Mother’s Love
Years ago I put up a powerful picture in my treatment room. It showed a small girl super imposed over a woman's mid torso. The caption read "Would you treat this little girl the way you're treating yourself?" Some of my clients loved it and some shied away. The results were impressive though.
Many of the clients made personal commitments to start taking better care of themselves on a daily basis.Wow, what a concept! I mention it because the picture reminds me of my mom.
My mom was great. She was loving and nurturing... just not always to herself. She was always there when I needed her. I know that I was blessed to call her my mom and she still empowers me. Still, seeing how she didn't always do the little things that made a big difference for herself, makes me more determined to do the little things for myself. Things like working out, yoga, taking relaxing baths or reading a good relaxing book. It's not about feeling pampered. It's about feeling well and feeling well about myself. Most mothers from my mom's generation weren't given that simple truth. It's really not luxury, it's actually therapy and wellness.
That's why for me it was a given to become a Massage Therapist. I want others to feel loved and cared for. Over the years I've met many who haven't been shown love. I enjoy seeing and feeling the changes that many of my clients go through. Changes in bodies, confidence and self respect. Pain relief too. Sometimes a client will tell me that "my mom used to stroke my head like that and it gave me comfort" or "I loved it when my mom rocked me". Some of my massages include a gentle rocking motion and it's very soothing. And it also works great on the nervous system.
With Mothers Day coming up remember that your mother waited on you hand and foot. Now it's time to soothe her head to toe, soul to sole. Treat her well. After all she's your mom.
Hope to see you soon,
Tana
